2021 Top Summer Pool Games

Water Fun for Everyone

Pool parties are in full swing, and that means it’s time for our yearly Top Summer Pool Games list. While there are tons of cool pool toys and inflatables, sometimes the best memories are created by playing a rousing game of Marco Polo or judging the largest cannonball splash. To help with your summertime fun, let’s dive into some really cool, low-cost pool games.

Fish Out of Water

Since we already touched on Marco Polo, let’s venture down that same path with a game by the name of “Fish Out of Water.” This water game is based on the idea of one person being “it” while searching for players located in or around the pool. The kicker is…the person who is “it” can only open their eyes underwater, and the other players can sneak out of the pool as long as they don’t get caught! If the person who is “it” catches a person out of the water, they yell “Fish Out of Water,” and that person becomes “it” for the next game.

Swimmer Says

Just like Simon Says, this game has limitless possibilities. Try to be as silly as possible and act out awesome summertime fun.

  • Swimmer Says, “Cannonball into the water while singing to the radio.”
  • Swimmer Says, “Swim on your back while juggling two pool noodles.”
  • Swimmer Says, “Jump into the pool while catching a football.”

Sharks and Minnows

This game is great to play with a crowd of kids (and adults). One person is selected to be the “shark” while the other players are the “minnows.” When the shark yells “GO,” the minnows must swim across the length of the pool without being tagged by the “vicious” shark. If the shark tags a minnow, that person must sit out until there is a one-on-one battle between the last shark and minnow. The last minnow remaining becomes the new shark and has bragging rights for the next few days!

What Time is it, Mr. Fox?

One person is designated to be Mr.(or Mrs.) Fox while the other players line up at the end of the pool. To start the game, the individuals at the end of the pool shout, “What time is it, Mr. Fox?” Mr. Fox then picks a time and the participants must take that amount of steps or strokes. (6:00 means 6 steps). At any point, Mr. Fox can decide that it is “LunchTime” where he/she tries to tag one of the individuals as they make their way to the other end of the pool.

Money Madness

One person takes a handful of change and tosses it into the pool. Once all of the coins have sunk to the bottom, the players try to retrieve the largest sum of money. The trick to this game is that it isn’t about how many coins you get, but rather the amount. This is a game based around excellent swimming and mathematical skills.
