Have You Tried Hot Tub Yoga?

Let’s face it: almost everything is better in the Hot Tub. From post-workout recovery to simply reading that book you can’t put down, your Jacuzzi is the perfect environment for relaxation. But your tub isn’t just for being still … have you tried hot tub yoga? Here are some benefits and quick tips to get you started!

Less Stress (On Everything!)

One of the biggest differences between hot tub yoga and its dry counterpart is that water supports the majority of your weight, the buoyancy making things easier on your muscles. This makes it ideal for beginners or those who might feel a strain on their joints. Similarly, those with difficulty balancing will also find that hot tub yoga alleviates stress on the body.

Building Strength

Because water allows for increased support, you will likely have a better range of motion to work with. Not only will you be able to try more poses, but your flexibility in the long term will improve, influencing your body’s health outside of the tub!

Poses to Try

Now that you have an idea of how Hot Tub Yoga could be beneficial to you, here are some exercises to try in your Jacuzzi!

Half Moon Pose

For some upper body movement, the Half Moon Pose is an efficient place to begin. With your feet flat on the hot tub’s floor, raise your arms above your head and put your hands together. Now, stretch the upper-half of your body from left to right, hips moving against your arms.

Spinal Twists

For this position, you’ll want to wrap your arms around yourself like a hug: then, twist from one side to the other in a smooth motion. Repeat 10 times ( or however many repetitions feels comfortable).

Seated Staff Pose

Let’s work those legs! While seated, your legs will be outstretched so that your body looks to be at a 90-degree angle. Now, bend at hip level. You will feel this stretch in your hamstrings.

Chair Pose

For another quick leg workout, try the chair pose. Start by standing in your hot tub. Raise your arms overhead, just like in the half moon pose and then lean into your heels (you will look like you are sitting on a chair!). Hold this pose for about 30 seconds, or however long feels comfortable to you. Repeat 2-3 times.
