Hot Tub Maintenance: Why, How, and When

3 Reasons to Maintain Your Hot Tub

  • Protect your investment. Your hot tub is an investment in your physical health, your mental health, and your relationships, on top of being a financial investment.
  • Prevent your source of relaxation from turning into stress. One of the key benefits of a hot tub is the relaxation it provides. Having expensive repairs due to lack of maintenance is not relaxing.
  • Ensure your hot tub is ready when you are. The last thing that you want when you’re ready to relax is an unexpected chore that prevents you from relaxing. Plan ahead, use preventative maintenance, and rest easy.

The 6 Keys to Hot Tub Care

11 Steps to Maintain Your Hot Tub

Before Use

1. Rinse off. Removing contaminants such as lotions and soaps before getting into your hot tub will help prevent poor water conditions from developing.

2. Uncover your hot tub. This may seem like a no-brainer, but it is important to let the condensation and vapors air out before getting in.

Daily

3. Circulate your water. Have you ever seen a stagnant pond? How about a stagnant river? This is the difference circulation makes. This is why it’s so important.

4. Filter your water. Pull contaminants out of your water through filtration.

5. Secure your cover. Prevent debris, animals, and kids from taking an unintentional soak.

Weekly

6. Clean your filter. Your filter can’t do its job effectively without being chemically cleaned and rinsed.

7. Test your water. Bather load by volume is much greater in a hot tub than in a pool, meaning the balance can change much more quickly.

8. Chemically care for your water. Is the pH of the water balanced? Have you chemically sanitized the water?

Quarterly (Every 3-4 Months)

Yearly

10. Replace your filter and ClearRay Bulb. While ClearRay bulbs are specific to Jacuzzi hot tubs, filters are universal. Eventually, rinsing and chemically cleaning your filter won’t quite cut it. At that point, it is time to replace your filter. Following this yearly step will help ensure that you don’t miss a crucial step in your daily maintenance.

Every 2 to 3 Years

11. Replace your filter. Even with regular cleaning, your filter will eventually become worn out. Typically, this happens every 2 to 3 years.
